Learn More About U.S. Barber Dimes (1892-1916)

The U.S. Barber dime, also referred to as the Liberty Head Dime, is named after its designer, Charles Barber who was a chief engraver of the U.S. Mint. The Barber dime was struck from 1892-1916 and features a right-facing Lady Liberty head wearing a cap surrounded by a laurel wreath with a ribbon tied at the back of her hairline. The reverse side features a laurel wreath and the words “ONE DIME” in the center. Barber dimes are comprised of 90% silver and 10% copper. The coins were minted in Philadelphia, San Francisco, and New Orleans during their first year of production. Starting in 1906, Barber dimes were produced in Denver as well.
